Avoiding the Evils of Bottled Water

We all know that water is essential for our health. The general rule is that adults should drink about 2 liters of water per day (though follow the advice of your doctor) and for many people bottled water has become the most common source. Bottled water easy to grab on the run, tastes fresh, and people feel it's safer than tap water. It's the fastest growing segment of the bottled drink industry and Americans spend billions on it every year. (If you buy a 20 oz. bottle out of a vending machine for $1, the price per ounce is higher than the current price for regular gasoline.) It's an expensive habit that creates the waste of over 60 million plastic bottles per day in the U.S. and uses a lot of gasoline to transport it.

An important economical alternative is good old tap water (locally it costs less than 1/2 cent/gallon). The quality of tap water is controlled by the EPA and may be safer than some bottled water under the less rigorous regulation of the FDA. Unfortunately it commonly retains the flavor and odor of chlorine and other chemicals used to purify it. The solution to give it a pure water taste is treatment with a modern water filter and many people own an in-house filtration system. These work well, but if you're an active person on-the-go, that doesn't help you away from home.

Enter the CamelBak Groove. A good-looking, durable, refillable bottle with an easy-to-use bite valve. Most important is the replaceable carbon filter that filters out chlorine and other chemicals as you sip resulting in clean, fresh-tasting water. The bottle is BPA-free and dishwasher safe. The bite valve is made out of safe medical grade silicone and is leak-proof.

The CamelBak Groove has been system tested by NSF International against the NSF / ANSI Standard 42 that pertains to the reduction of chlorine, taste, odor and particulates found in public or private drinking water. The Groove carries the NSF logo as proof of its performance. Just replace the carbon filter every 30 gallons for about 2 months of use. NOTE: The Groove is designed as a filter for tap water, it is not intended for camping. It will not filter Cryptosporidium or Giardia.

The important thing is that the Groove makes it easy to avoid the regular purchase of bottled water while still enjoying fresh tasting, healthy water.
